Why Isn't My Updated eBook Showing Up When I Download It From Amazon?

Just as we explained, in our other article, Do My Buyers Get My Updated eBook From Amazon When I Update It?, Amazon doesn't automatically just override what everyone has on their Kindles and "push" them the new version of your book. This is because readers make their own comments, notes, highlights; their own bookmarks, etc., and when a new version is downloaded, all of that is utterly lost.  As you can imagine, some readers might get a bit cranky about that!

Well, So, How Do I See It, Then?

Very simply, you email the KDP and you ask them to "push" it to you (that's the correct terminology).  If you have made significant changes that will, in the words of Amazon, make a "significantly better reading experience" for the buyer, they'll consider alerting your buyers to download a new copy.  Just fixing a few typos—or even a lot of typos—does not constitute making a significantly better reading experience. Adding things like footnotes, sidebars, new and updated material, etc., are considered adding good value and content.
