Do eBooks Have Multiple Columns, like Newspapers?

In short, the answer is—No.  eBooks do not, and cannot, have newspaper columns.  The bottom line is, as we discussed previously, about some other elements, there just isn't enough processing power in eReading devices to make the millions of calculations needed, to ensure that those columns would always be perfect, no matter the size screen, no matter the font size chosen, and font, etc.  You'd need something closer to a Cray computer, than a lightweight eReader.

The other thing that folks don't think about is the relative size of eReading screens.  A piece of typing or copy paper, 8.5" x 11", has 93.5 square inches of space.  A typical Kindle screen, which is 3.5" wide and 4.75" tall, has 16.62 square inches of space. That's a huge difference.  Unless you want to read itsy-bitsy teeny-weeny text, the reality is, trying to read two newspaper columns of text, on a Kindle screen (never mind a smartphone screen!), is going to be pretty tricky.

When needed, we create "columns" for eBook content by using tables with invisible borders.  Thus, we can do things like put ingredient measurements and names, in two "columns" in an eBook, or create smaller tables. It's doable. It's not viable for big long swaths of text, but we can create faux-columns for shorter bits.
